The Brand Story - In 1929, a young man from Derry, in the north of Ireland, called Shane O’ Neill, had just finished his trade as a Blacksmith, just like his father and his grandfather before him. However, he leaves his beloved city and sets sail for America for work. Upon his departure, Shane’s father hugged and kissed him goodbye; he said, “Farewell, my son Shane,” handing him a few pound and a wooden box. Inside was a bottle of whiskey and a note. “Take care of yourself, son, remember us and Ireland in your heart,” instructing him to take a drink of whiskey as he passed Inishtrahull Lighthouse (the last sight of Ireland) and read the note.
As the light of Inishtrahull Lighthouse faded into the distance, Shane made a toast to Ireland and began reading the note. He discovered it was a family recipe for a special Whiskey passed down from his Grandfather. He was astonished. When he arrived in New York, he kept the recipe safe, later building a metal container to keep the bottle of remaining whiskey and the recipe safe. In the years that passed, Shane would go on to build a small batch distillery of his own, using his blacksmith skills and his family’s special whiskey recipe. Every time he tasted his whiskey, his mind was sailed back to his last sight of Ireland, Inishtrahull Island, and its lighthouse. Inishtrahull Irish Whiskey was born.
